Witney Lakes 2008/02/04 13:27 Karma: 1
Hi all,

Well yesterday I discovered Witney lakes and I must say that I am very glad that I did.

If you have never been then it is a must. It is so peaceful over there and the views and wildlife are fantastic.

I took my Jessie and Butchie (the dogs) along with my partner and had a really relaxing 2 hour walk.

If you want to try it out you can get there through the station lane industrial estate and via ducklington, however we made it through from Cogges even though the mud was very deep in parts it was great fun, but we came back filthy.

Here is a satellite picture so that you can get some idea of where it is an how to get there!

There are paths all the way around which makes it easier if you have trouble walking.

I wish I had taken my camera so that I could have taken some pictures for the other members - maybe next Sunday!

There is a nice map below too.

This sounds like a lovely weekend activity! Isn't this where the Witney Lakes Resort is? Now that you've discovered it, do you think you'll do any golfing there or use the health club facilities?

No, I have heard of this place though. The place that I was referring too is like a nature reserve.

Oh, that's a great idea for a place to go and take in a bit of English nature. In Canada we are blessed to have so many great reserves and hiking trails in many of the mid-sized cities and I would be sad not to have access to any of these. I'll have to check out the Witney Lakes when I get to Oxford. It should be nice come summertime especially.

Thank you for sharing this place. I am more of an outdoors person so this would be perfect for me. I love the peace and quiet of places like this one and to be able to see the animals you might not normally see elsewhere is a plus. I would love to see pictures if you do go again sometime soon.

Yes, pictures would be very nice as well if possible. I wish I could have a dog or two when I get to Oxford but this is probably the closest I would be able to get considering that it's going to be expensive just to get over there and find a room. It's always nice on a sunny day to get outside and see dogs running around parks though.

I really think that the place is super cool! I clicked on the google map you provided and despite the not-so-good resolution, I appreciate the lake. It must really be nice out there huh? When you get to take pictures, I hope you would post it here for us to appreciate. Thanks!

I am pretty sure that this will be worth visiting. I have seen the place through the links you shared and I also checked out some pictures in other sites and I should say that the place is very interesting.
