The Witney market and all that rubbish... 2008/02/03 08:28 Karma: 1
Hi,

Does anyone else think that that twice weekly market makes the town look untidy? I know its only for a day but they pile their rubbish up beside the chippy and Oxfam and it looks a right mess.

I really like it when the farmers market comes to town. I think that they really add something to the atmosphere of Witney. Its just a shame that it seems to pack up so early, it would be really nice if it went on until the evening like the French market that they have every so often in Gloucester Green in Oxford.

Maybe the Wychwood brewery could have a stall and it could become a bit of a social gathering for people after work.

That would be a lot nicer than the twice week chavie market with it's shouting mockney fruit sellers and all that rubbish...

I don't mind them, they don't bother me, cause I like thier prices. By any chance do you live close to the market? how far out of town are you?

There is a weekly market where i live, its in the town centre so its easy access.
The rubbish is only around for a few hours after they leave then its quickly cleaned up by the street cleaners.

Once a week may make things look a little 'cleaner' but I like the idea of twice weekly markets because that way you can get the cheapest and freshest produce and such without really ever having to use the supermarket. I think the cost is worth the price in this case.

We have a market near me that is twice weekly and honestly I love it. It is nice to be able to get fresh fruits and vegetables. That being said I have to admit the people that participate are good at making sure to clean up at the end of the day.

Since Witney is talked of as a market town do we really want to get rid of the market. Lots of people really like to shop at the market and the rubbish is very quickly cleared away. Some people come in to Witney on market days just to come to the market so one person not likeing it is not really a reason to stop a tradition thats been going on in the town for hundreds of years. I would suggest if you don't like the market don't go then everyones happy.

A twice weekly farmers' market sounds like fun. They must have a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and a lot of other interesting stuff that you can get at a bargain. Of course, something ought to be done about the rubbish. But a market without noise wouldn't be market, would it? I enjoy such markets.

We have a weekly market at our place too. I really enjoy buying stuff there.

Cheers!
