Nice dog walk... 2008/02/02 20:34 Karma: 1
Had a friend over today with his kids and dog. My dogs always enjoy walkies so we headed from Cogges to Langdale common. We crossed over the bridge at the first river and then turned left, through a gate and across several meadows beside the river. Eventually we came across an old water mill and a gate into Witney Lakes. It was a great walk and we met loads of 'doggie' people on the way round and stopped for several nice chats. It amazes me that when you are one your own, no one chats with you, and then when you are with the dog in the countryside most people stop for a chat.

If you have a dog and live in or around Witney then I am sure you would love this walk too.

Yeah thats a really great walk...

With regards to Langdale Common... I do wish that people would stop smashing glass bottles on the paths. There are plenty of bins there for these air-heads to use, so why don't they use them?

By "doggie" people you mean they were people who also were with dogs? Anyways, I think the people thought they had something in common with you as you were with a dog and so were they. Or they thought your dog was cute and they wanted to cuddle it, that's the only other reason I can find.

Hello friend,You have started really a funny & interesting discussion.I must appreciate you for your idea. Now our pets are more important than us.Here the pet is one of the medium to chat with others.I think the chats you had there may be related to dogs.

I really do miss my dog walks, you are very right Richard i think it's because people are strolling at their leasure and not heading somewhere or pre occupied with shopping, work, school etc and so are far more approachable. Stopping for a chat was always something i looked forward too aswell, while the doggies had a little play

That s sad that people are smashing glass bottles on this beautiful walk.

Richard, regarding people , yes I totally agree.
I think it is because people feel you might be more apporachable of a person, easier going if you have a dog.

i think shoumik is right that your dog must be cute, thats why people come up to you for a chat. it happens with me, as i have 3 dogs and my parents have 5, so whenever i take all of them out, mostly people are askign me as to how i manage 8 dogs. so that starts up a good chat and i dont find anything wrong in that.
as for this dog walk, i have never been there, so i will surely try it out.

I have found that is the case when walking your dog. I have had people come up and start nice conversations while walking my dog. I think you're right in that they see someone that has something in common with them so it makes it easier for them to approach you.

Walking dogs has probably been one of the easiest ways to meet new people. I agree as well. People talk to you because they find you both have something in common - the love for dogs. I also agree that they might see you as more approachable. I wonder if this would work with cats? I know of some people who walk cats.
