Tirrold Way Armed Robbery 2008/02/06 18:38 Karma: 1
I just read a story of a twelve year old boy attempting a robbery at knife point on January 21st. Just when I thought the story couldn't be stranger and more disturbing it reveals that the victim of the 'robbery' was another boy, aged ten!

Luckily nobody was hurt but this story just seems incredible to me. What do the rest of you think about this? There are relatively few details because obviously the boys are both minors but I think that this is immensely troubling considering the ages involved and the attempt at such a violent act.

That is terrible. They seem so young to be involved in this kind of stuff. Did they state if the two knew each other? I hate to see such young people starting out this way. I have an eight year old and I could not imagine him robbing anyone.

The article was pretty vague on the details, probably because both of the boys involved were too young to have their names printed or publicized. Because of that I don't know if they knew each other too well but I'd assume that they did to some extent.

It really is a horrible story.

Almost more interesting than the short article are the comments about it. People really have some strong opinions and like to call each other names. It is quite funny.

As some would say in the comments, that it was the result of bad upbringing, I would disagree. As a parent of a 19 year old and an 17 year old, I can say that the 2 couldn't be more different. Our 19 year old daughter has has been in to some trouble with alcohol when she was a little younger. Our 17 year old boy has never been in trouble. Two kids with the same upbringing. Just goes to show you that parents can only go so far, but kids make their own decisions and make their own friends in school.

Well, I wonder if this wasn't meant to be serious. I mean, little boys can definitely play with knives without meaning to harm anyone, although of course it's always dangerous to give them weapons. What I'm saying is, was the 12 year old boy serious about harming the other boy? Or was he just threatening him the way schoolboys do?

I am really sorry to disagree with you guys but you are talking boys that are twelve and ten. There should be no reason in the world that they have knives. Let alone threatening each other with them.
I do understand there comes a time when as parents you might not know what your kids are doing all the time. But at these ages I would think that you would know. I have two sons that are eight and six and I sure hope I know what and where they are at twelve and ten.

I guess everything is getting sooner for the kids. Now if they start doing robberies than what could be more scary. Or maybe the twelve year old boy's parents were also a thief.

It's an alarm for parents to be conscious about their kids. It's a social issue also, in future the same case may be from our kids. So we all should think about it seriously.

I read a news report just recently where they polled parents and a staggering amount of parents said they considered their children as adults at the age of 13!!! 13?? it's crazy and thats why this story does not surprise me.
