I think the only place I've ever visited where the taxis were reasonably priced was New York City, simply because they are one of the only ways to travel by car through the jammed streets at all. I plan on making use of public transit and getting a bus pass (how much per month are they for students?) because I'm going to be a poor, poor boy when I get there.

If you plan on visiting London, then you can take the Oxford Express or the Oxford Tube. Both run to and from London and are reasonably priced in my opinion.

Riding a taxi nowadays is very luxurious even in our country. But people who wish to get to their destination in the fastest possible way would not complain with the amount they have to pay. If renting a car is a better option in Oxford, then I would consider that when I get to have the opportunity to visit the place.

I will have to look up the Oxford Tube and Express. This sounds more my style since I wouldn't be familiar with the area. Thanks for the information.

If you are unfamiliar about the surrounding areas then the best option for you to rent a car.It is comfortable but expensive too.My own suggession to you is first purchase a city guide book & go through it.Then you can opt for buses.

We would love to rent a car and will probably end up doing so. I just really hate to drive in areas that I am unfamiliar with. But I think that I will end up just being the passenger and let someone else do the driving. Better chance of not getting us lost that way.

I don't think a bus would be as useful as a car renting. Because people mostly want to travel a lot and the only way to do it is by car renting. You could be traveling a lot with a car but a bus would be no good. You might end hating later on.
