Public Transportation 2008/01/29 22:38 Karma: 0
I was wondering what kind of public transportation is the best to use to get around? I mean I would like to visit some of the surrounding areas but don't necessarily want to have to rent a car. I know we are going to be either near here or Oxford so I guess renting a car might be the best but I am not one to drive in areas that I am unfamiliar with. So I was wondering if there is a bus that you can use or a rail line? Thanks so much just very unfamiliar with the area and just now starting to plan my vacation.

Hi Brandon05

Renting a car would allow you to travel a lot further and have more convenience but you could try the public transport, local buses from Thame can take you into any other city like Abingdon and in to Oxford, they are supposed to run every 10 minutes. If you want to travel out and around a bit you can use the trains - and again they will take you into all the other local towns, you could also take the train into London. Failing that you can rely on a taxi but taxi's are pretty expensive and you would probably be better off renting a car instead of paying the taxi prices!

Too right! I just paid £5.20 for a 4 minute trip. Maybe I am in the wrong job!

Ha ha! You guys really paid a lot. But hey dont you think the taxi fares all over the world are most expensive as compared to the other options of transport? Its the same condition which ever city you go, which ever country you go.

Hi Zerzis,

Yeah I guess you pay a lot everywhere though I am convinced that around London and Oxford the prices are more expensive than anywhere! compared to local buses naturally taxi's are more expensive but public transport can be a little scary if you are not local. So it is probably the same I agree but the reply was based for Thame area and public transport in that area locally.

I'd definitely rent a vehicle before paying the price of a taxi. To sightsee longer distances, the train might be nice but if you're talking about just short jaunts, public transportation is much better than a cab in my opinion. Well, unless you have a LOT of extra cash lying around, that is.

If you are thinking of visiting the city if say you have come for a tour then dont take a different taxi for each and every place. It will be better if you rent some local car for that purpose. Also you have freedom of time in this case.. you can enjoy without constraint of time.

Well it sounds like renting a car would be easier. But I just hate to drive in areas that I am so unfamiliar with. But then again maybe I could make someone else in our party do the actual driving. Thanks for all the information. As to the taxi's they do seem expensive no matter where you go and with the price of gas nowadays even moreso.
