Impending Water Shortage 2008/05/08 05:23 Karma: 0
Have you read about it? Oxfordshire will run out of water in 6 years! Well, that is if the construction of a water reservoir near Abington will not push through, according to Thames Water.

However, this proposed project is being opposed by the Group Against the Reservoir Development saying that the move is not in the best interest of all the people concerned.

So, what do you think? Should the reservoir project push through or not?

Well, every major project (especially if it will have a huge impact on the environment) definitely has its own pros and cons.

On one hand, the Thames Water is pushing for the development of the reservoir so that water shortage can be avoided in the near future. On the other hand, the opposing group is saying that there are other actions that would be more sustainable and are in the best interest of the majority.

I just hope that this matter can be settled sooner so that the needed actions can be implemented.

Oh, don't worry. The matter will be settled soon enough (I hope). The people have 16 weeks to decide whether they think the proposed project is okay or not. And then, the Environment Secretary will decide the project's fate. Let's just keep our minds open, think about the options and pray that the people will be enlightened before coming to a decision.

There are others ways to get water too, through the processes that Singapore uses works too I guess... There are always more than one solution to any problem.. The only question is who's the one in charge and who are in favor of which solution I guess... Hope it all works out soon...

Well, you have not mentioned the causes for this water shortage. Surely, if constructing a reservoir will harm the interests of some people, other methods to preserve and conserve water can be studied? There are several ways to preserve water. There is something called water harvesting.

But, I guess it is up to Thames Water to make a final decision based on a careful study, which I am sure it will do.

Cheers!
