I believe that it all boils down to personal choice. However, I also believe that the government has a responsibility to inform the public of the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption. But banning alcohol in general, now wouldn't that be a bit too much?

Drinking is kind of like smoking. Though people know that it is harmful to them, they don't really stop. They still view it as something that isn't at all dangerous.

Yes, a lot of people think of it that way. They don't believe that any of the health risks associated with excessive drinking (or smoking, for that matter) will hit them head on. They'll only consider changing their habits when they have already been diagnosed with a disease of some sort.

People are ignorant that way. I think they think those diseases you get from excessive drinking and smoking only happens to others and not to them. When they are diagnosed, they regret not quitting and start to change - though for some, it's already too late.

And that's the saddest part of the story. You learn that the ill effects of those damaging habits can hit you only when it's too late! I just hope that people will start to take these things seriously to avoid any untoward complications later. That way, a lot of lives will be saved.
