Every university has its own personality, I've noticed... what would you tell me to look out for first? Like what could I *really* mess up with if I hadn't been warned ahead of time?

I'd love to know this as well. I'm not as scared as katharina but at the same time I don't want to have any horrible surprises if I get accepted and find out that I'd have a hard time with the culture or anything.

Can Oxford natives help us out here?

Scared? I'm not scared! It's just a lot easier to know all the "quirks" a school has before showing up and making blunders, isn't it? And since a lot of new students will probably be looking in this forum for tips. Scared? Hmmmph!

The school is just like a normal school. There won't be any nasty surprises waiting for you unless you count the different names for sports and other things. I guess since coming to oxford I found people to be more well-mannered then what I was used to

I think that this is just a normal thing. I guess that most of us are just new here. The best thing we can do is help out one another. Be friendly and have lot of friends.

Haha, sorry katharina I shouldn't have implied that you were scared. I knew what you meant but for some reason I misinterpreted. Thanks for the article as well Richard, even just a brief article like that goes a long way when we're unfamiliar with everything.

It wasn't your fault... I just noticed that I *did* choose to use the word "panic" and shoudn't have. Just more of a "what do I do next" kind of thing than a "scared panic."

I enjoyed the article, too. I hope they'll be able to get the funding to keep the tutorial system running!

I have heard Oxford is a nice place to go to school, with no horrible first day experiences. I have always hated first days of school, especially my first day of college. I have always heard horror experiences about the older classmates playing pranks on the younger students. Needless to say, on my first day of college I carried around a little thing of mace....
