Places to visit 2008/02/01 16:05 Karma: 0
So I'm coming to Oxford in a few months time and wondered if anyone can suggest some good local places to visit.

Even though I'm originally from down south (Isle of Wight)I havent been back for 20+ years and really want to make the most of my time. The sort of things I'm looking for are historical buildings, beautiful scenery and generally places of interest, I'm not looking for shopping malls or busy nightlife so places to avoid may be useful too if anyone can help.

I have never been to Oxford but we are in the planning stages of visiting hopefully in September. Wanted to go earlier in the year but I am going with family so that is when they can go. Anyway I just started looking around and one of the places that might be of interest to you would be the Museum of Natural History. I promised my sons that I would try to go here to see the dinosaur fossils. They are really into dinosaurs at the moment and want me to take pictures if you are allowed.

I would love to hear of any other suggestions people on here might have also. thanks.

I dont think you will be allowed to click photos of the fossils because naturally the photography will be banned inside of the meseums. Still then satisfying craziness of children is a good thing to do.

You're probably right about the pictures but I am sure they would be happy with even some postcards showing the dinosaurs. Personally I myself like to visit Natural History Museums so I would enjoy it myself.

Richard posted a good answer to a similar question of mine over in the 'Around Oxford' forum so that would worth checking out. I'm also trying to find out what the best places are for historical sites and such. I know there are quite a few nice ancient buildings and other such landmarks worth checking out, just not where they are specifically.
