Hi all,
When is the Royal Regatta in Henley?
I remember going as a child and would love to go again, but can't remember when it is on. I know its in the summer sometime.

I want to say it is in the beginning of July. One of my Father's dreams is to attend this someday. He has a ton of books and stuff on this event. Hopefully one day he will get to see it. Has anyone on here ever been to it?

It's the first weekend of July, yes... well actually Wednesday through Sunday. Note this is different from Henley Vets Regatta and the Henley Regatta for women.

The Veteran Regatta is for masters or veteran crews and is held the next weekend after the royal. The women's version will be held on the 20-22 of June this year, so actually before the Royal.
Dates for the Royal this year, by the way, are July 2nd through 6th. Next summer it will be held on the 1st through 5th of July ('09).

Glad I could be of some help to you. Which one would you most like to see, or will you attend more than one of them? In any case, I hope you have a fabulous time there!

It's a good thing that women were permitted to join the regatta. But do you know that it was only in 1975 that women were allowed to compete in this event? Anyway, the rest is history. Good luck to this year's regatta!

What exactly happens in a regatta? Some of you mentioned that people compete there? Is this sort of a local olympics or something like that? It seems like a customary event.
