it would be interesting to know more about the old tradition, but wouldnt you consider it kind of inhuman? all the parts of a pigeon helps in flying process, and the feathers help in trapping the air while flying. am sure the dying process would have made it difficult for pigeons to fly normally.

You're right, sigs. Dyeing pigeons is a very inhumane act for the reasons you stated and more. I can only imagine how those poor animals feel while they are being dyed and after the process have transpired.

I've heard of chicks being dyed but never of pigeons. How can they fly properly? Tradition-wise, it would be okay. But the morality of it just isn't. There is such a thing as animal cruelty, whether it was meant to be that or not.

And what if the dye contains toxic chemicals? The birds will surely take it in one way or the other! Imagine what it would do to those poor birds!

Anyway, do they still do it? Or was it just the eccentric Lord Berners who practiced it?
