I think that this law should have been implemented long time ago. Second hand smoke is really more hazardous. Non-smokers will be very happy with this kind of law. Hopefully, such law will be strictly implemented.

As for bar business, I don't see how it can make a significant loss, since bars/pubs are still places to hang out and drink, even if you don't smoke in there.

I guess I have to be the "oddball out" here but I *do* think there is a loss when pubs ban smoking. Why would they be allowed to cater to one vice and not another? It could be argued that drinking could be just as damaging to health as smoking can be. (and yes, I know those in favor of banning everything will mention the second hand smoke but then I guess those people who worry about that could buy a bottle and drink at home, eh?)

I don't know... I don't do either of these things (but smoked until a few years ago) and pubs that aren't filled with smoke... well that just detracts terribly from the ambiance in my opinion.

They will lose business with this ban. I am a smoker and If I couldn't smoke while having a drink, then I might as well drink at home. Which Vice is worse anyway, alcohol or tobacco?

Well drinking only affects your health where as smoking harms those around you too. There have'nt been any big reports about loss of revenue from pub landlords, and i guess smokers can only protest and stay at home boycotting these establishments for so long before they will want to be out and socialising again, so its a case of having to conform.

lol, think again. drinking also affects others. i mean once someone is drunk~ he'll affect others as well~ physically of course~ then become mentally.

well yes i agree smoking should be ban as its the root of drugs, killing it might kill of drugs and bring a better health to the entire nation.

Well, personally, I support the smoking ban in pubs since we all know how damaging secondhand smoke can be. If we can't do anything else for the smokers (it's their choice after all), we must at least protect the interest of the non-smokers who also want to hang out in those public places.

Designating separate areas for smokers and non-smokers is also a great idea. At least, all our interests are being served, right?

I have nothing against smokers, but I sure hate it when a person makes me a passive smoker. Moreover, I am allergic to the smoke. I don't frequent bars and pubs either, so I guess it doesn't make much of a difference, at least to me.

In my area, there is no ban on smoking on public places. So, the pubs are full of smoke. Nobody seems to mind. I am sure people wouldn't be happy if a rule cropped up suddenly forbidding them to smoke in the pubs.

Cheers!
